Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform written question – answered at on 2 March 2009.
To ask the Minister of State, Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform what estimate he has made of the number of businesses which have closed as a result of competition from businesses on the Channel Islands which operate under value added tax exemption rules; and if he will take steps to compensate those businesses which have closed.
I have been asked to reply.
No such estimate has been made. In practice it is unlikely to be possible to attribute reliably the closure of any particular business to one specific factor.
