To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many mental health beds are in (a) single rooms and (b) mixed areas.

At 31 March 2008, the number of single bedded rooms in mental health trusts was 17,894 and the number of beds not in single rooms was 5,454. These figures do not include mental health beds provided by other trusts.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
