To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what recent assessment his Department has made of the levels of use of canal towpaths by cyclists and walkers.

The Department for Transport has made no assessment, since the monitoring of local travel patterns is a matter for local authorities and the usage of canal towpaths, a matter for British Waterways.
