To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department pursuant to the written ministerial statement of 18 April 2006, Official Report, column 1WS, on the citizen information project, for what reason the proposal to use the as an adult population register is not listed as part of the 2008 Delivery Plan or Cost Reports; and if she will make a statement on the implications for the population register proposal of initial roll out of the National Identity Scheme to a distinct subset of the UK population for trialling.

The National Identity Scheme will be introduced incrementally but will expand to have the capacity eventually to cover the majority of the UK population.
