To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs how many prosecutions for offences under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 have been brought (a) in Leeds and (b) in total since the Act came into force, broken down by prosecuting agency.

The Animal Welfare Act came into force on 6 April 2007 in England and 27 March 2007 in Wales. The first published data will be available in the autumn of 2009.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
