To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform what recent assessment he has made of the national demand for fluorspar of UK origin; and if he will make a statement.

The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform has not undertaken any independent assessment of the national demand for fluorspar of UK origin. I refer my hon. Friend to the recently published British Geological Survey open report OR/08/27 "The Need for Indigenous Fluorspar Production in England", which is available online at
