To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what the total cost was of salaries for (a) permanent civil service posts, (b) permanent non-civil service posts and (c) temporary or agency workers in his Department in each month since May 2005.

Details of the wages and salaries paid by the Department to permanent staff, Ministers and special advisors and other staff are shown in Table 6.1 of the Treasury's Annual Report and Accounts 2005-06 (HC 1344) and 2006-07 (HC 518). Copies of the documents can be found at:

A monthly breakdown of the figures could be provided only at disproportionate costs.
