asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have received legal advice regarding possible claims on behalf of the taxpayer against the directors and auditors of Northern Rock plc in respect of the 30 June 2007 interim accounts; and, if not, whether they will commission such advice.

It is for the board of Northern Rock to consider any causes of action that may be open to it.
