To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government how many parish and town councils there are in England; and what estimate her Department has made of the number which levy a precept on council tax bills in their area.

There are approximately 8,900 parish and town councils in England. Details of the number of parish and town councils which levy a precept on council tax bills in their area is not recorded centrally.
