To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs whether any prosecutions have taken place for offences related to the protection of vole habitats under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 since 1998.

The number of defendants proceeded against for offences under section 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 in England and Wales from 1998 to 2006 is shown in the table. The Ministry of Justice is unable to separate offences relating to the protection of vole habitats from offences against other animals listed in schedule 5 of the Act.
