Prime Minister written question – answered on 24th January 2008.
To ask the Prime Minister what discussions he held during his recent visit to India on discrimination by caste and descent in that country.
During my visit, I announced a new UK three-year development programme of £825 million. This will support the health and education sectors, with a particular focus on bringing education to a greater proportion of Indians, regardless of caste. In addition, I took part in an event on women's empowerment where I discussed among other issues the impact of caste and discrimination in Indian society.
