To ask the Secretary of State for Justice whether the Commission for Racial Equality was asked to conduct a race impact assessment on the introduction of the indeterminate sentence for public protection.

The Commission for Racial Equality worked with the Home Office to identify a list of provisions in the Criminal Justice Act 2003, prior to its introduction, for impact assessment—this list did not include the provision relating to the sentence of imprisonment for public protection.
