To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the political situation in Pakistan.

I refer the hon. Member to the statement on Pakistan and Kenya made by my right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary to the House on 7 January 2008, Hansard, columns 21-24.

The world has been shocked and outraged by Ms Bhutto's tragic assassination on 27 December 2007. This senseless attack must not be allowed to undermine the move towards democracy in Pakistan. The priority now must be to ensure the democratic process remains on track.
