To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what projections have been made of the number of taxi drivers that will be operating in London for each of the next five years.

There are currently 24,500 licensed taxi drivers in London. Transport for London indicates that, assuming the upward trend in the number of taxi drivers continues, this is likely to rise to 25,500 by 2012.
