To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what guidance her Department provides to police on limiting access of the media to information on the removal of material as evidence during the evidence-gathering phase of a police investigation to protect the rights of an accused person.
The control and management of information during a police investigation is an operational matter for the chief officer of the force concerned. Guidance is provided by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) Media Advisory Group to the police on working with the media and releasing information about individual cases.
