I would like to how the Government are going to respond to this issue. This type of building material was used between the late 1940's to the late 1960's and therefore could affect potentially every property in the country, built between this period.
Whilst the issue has been resolved for those properties with a damp proof membrane, what about the properties that don't have this? Why should the tax payer be forced to remedy the property to the tune of between £10,000 - £30,000.00 when it was the Government who sanctioned the use of this building material in the first place?
It was interesting to read that many Local Authorities housing stock may not meet the Decent Homes Standard because of this issue and even interesting more, how one northern Local Authority have applied to the Cabinet for a very large sum of money in order to remedy this problem. However the Government have removed the grants previously available to homeowners, to remedy this problem.
How are the Government going to respond to the potential thousands of people who may now become homeless due to being unable to afford to carry out these essential works on their properties and therefore the properties falling into delapidation.
In an already unstable housing market, potentially several thousand more properties may become unsaleable / unmortgageable.
