To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether Biometric data of children aged 11 to 16 years captured for biometric passports will be transferred to the new Identity Cards database.

It is intended that British citizens aged 16 and over will become registered on the National Identity Register and receive an identity card alongside an application for an adult passport.
It is only once such an application is received that biometrics will be recorded on the National Identity Register as part of the application process for a passport and identity card package.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
