To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what his latest estimate is of the cost of tax relief for approved pension schemes in 2007-08; and if he will make a statement.

Latest detailed estimates of the annual cost of tax relief on approved pension schemes are available in table 7.9 on Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs website at:

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/stats/pensions/menu.htm

In addition a provisional estimate of the overall net cost of tax relief for the current year is given in table A3.1 of the Budget report. This is £16.3 billion for 2006-07.
