To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government pursuant to the answer of 19 January 2007, Official Report, column 1354W, on local authority charging, what the timetable is for the research into local authorities charging for pre-application advice and discussions.

The Department has commissioned research into the cost of the planning service to local authorities, including the costs of non-fee related work such as pre-application advice and discussions. We will consider the research and plan to publish the results later this year.
