To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what the inheritance tax threshold was in each year since 1996-97.

The nil rate bands for inheritance tax in each of the last 10 financial years are given in table A.8 of HMRC National Statistics, available from the HMRC website at:

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/stats/inheritance_tax/appendix_a8.pdf.

At Budget 2007 the Chancellor announced that the IHT nil rate band will rise by more than expected statutory indexation to £350,000 in 2010-11.
