To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what assessment he has made of the effectiveness of the new deal in Scotland.

Since 1997 employment in Scotland is up by over 246,000, long-term claimant unemployment is close to its lowest for 30 years and long-term youth unemployment has been significantly reduced.

The new deal in Scotland has contributed to this success by helping more than 200,000 people into work.
