Defence written question – answered at on 6 December 2006.
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what items of weapon-related equipment for which his Department was responsible were stolen in the last 12 months.
In answering this question I have taken theft of 'weapon-related' equipment to mean stolen weapons and ammunition. Weapons and ammunition are the only types of 'weapon-related equipment' for which central records of thefts are maintained.
The following weapons and ammunition for which the Department was responsible were stolen in the last 12 months:
Type | Number listed as stolen |
Ammunition 5.56 mm | 230 |
Smoke Grenade Training | 2 |
Baton Round (Blank) | 1 |
Rifle 5.56 mm | 6 |
Rifle No. 8 (Cadet) | 4 |
Pistol 9 mm | 2 |
