Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs written question – answered at on 6 December 2006.
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs which United Nations General Assembly Resolutions on nuclear disarmament were supported by the United Kingdom at its 61(st) session.
The UK supported the Japanese resolution entitled "Renewed determination toward the total elimination of nuclear weapons". We also voted in favour of a further 40 resolutions supporting a wide range of issues from the Chemical Weapons Convention to the Arms Trade Treaty of which we were a leading proponent.

Niclear Dai at it again I see.
Once again an excellent answer from Dr Kim Howells which will probably baffle the member from Blaneau Gwent. I note that Mr Davies has now joined the "Faslane 365 group" as they blockade the Faslane Trident Base. I think he should pop up to London now and then to do some work rather than trotting off to Scotland with his new group of friends who he has now latched on to. The list of some of the people involved in this campaign is quite interesting. There's the usual bunch of bible pushers, the odd usual suspects from the Labour party, with SNP, Plaid, SSP, Greens and even George Galloway. A Stack from overseas that should keep their noses out of the business of the UK, plus Some Actors,Artists, Photographers, Film-makers,and Musicians who I have never heard of.
Their aim is that,
"Trident must be taken out of deployment and the government should make a timetable for dismantling the weapons, together with a commitment not to develop any new nuclear weapons".
Some of their blockade tactics include
The basic plan to close all four gates of the Faslane base nonviolently, using their bodies by either lying or sitting on the roadway in front of the gates. With at least 100 new blockaders coming each day the suggestion is to get about 25 blockaders, plus five support people, at each gate. They want to stop all traffic from getting into the base for as long as possible by using their bodies and imagination to block the entrances.
I think Mr davies is on a loser once again here as the three main parties in parliament all have members supporting the governemnt on this issue. The vote to keep our nuclear deterrent will survive and I will have a little wager with the hon gent if he wishes.
However, Will nuclear Dai be visiting Scotland on this mission? Will he be paying for his own trip to Faslane or will he be claiming expenses for this trip?. Better still, will he attend the dabate on this issue next year in parliament? Better Better still, will he start doing some work in the constituency and stop flapping about in Scotland with a bunch of loony lefties that have no real concern about Blaneau Gwent?. Could the Hon member please phone me to let me know. P.S. Don't forget to take your wellies and long johns as it gets very chilly in Scotland at this time of year. P.P.S I have a map and a compass if you want to borrow them.
