Home Department written question – answered on 7th November 2006.
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what the reasons are for the change in the number of outstanding asylum cases in the Immigration and Nationality Directorate since 1 June.

This small increase of 200 cases reflects the redeployment of staff on to dealing with other higher priority cases such as foreign national prisoners. New caseworkers are being recruited and trained to deal with asylum intake.
