To ask the Minister of State, Department for Constitutional Affairs what progress has been made by electoral registration officers and local authorities on improving registration rates for postal votes.
There is no duty on electoral registration officers or local authorities to increase the number of electors registered to vote by post.
Section 9 of the Electoral Administration Act 2006 places a new duty on electoral registration officers to take certain steps to maximise the number of eligible people on the electoral register. That section came into force on
