Health written question – answered at on 13 September 2006.
To ask the Secretary of State for Health what representations she has received from managers of the South East Coast strategic health authority and the West Sussex primary care trust regarding effects of the funding formula on health funding in Sussex.
The Secretary of State has received no direct representations from managers at NHS South East Coast and Western Sussex primary care trust (PCT) regarding the effects of the funding formula on health funding in Sussex.
Revenue allocations are made to PCTs on the basis of a fair funding formula that directs funding to those areas of greatest need. To ensure equity in resource allocation, the development of the formula is kept under continuous review by the Advisory Committee on Resource Allocation.

Why have fundings for the mentally ill been diverted in some areas to other parts of the NHS?

Rosie Winterton, Department of Health Minister, refers to "areas of greatest need" in the NHS, which includes, of course, mental health. But under "New Labour", thousands of mentally ill people can be found languishing in 'social dustbins' [prisons], rather than receiving care and treatment in NHS hospitals. Is this a caring Government?
Good question from Alix Cull.
