To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer pursuant to the answer of 28 June 2006, Official Report, column 414W, on sickness absence, to what he attributes the rise in the number of staff with (a) two, (b) three, (c) four and (d) five or more periods of sickness absence of less than five days in each of the last three years.
Staff absenteeism recorded as sickness absence in each year since 1997 is contained in Cabinet Office publication of an annual report "Analysis of Sickness Absence in the Civil Service". This report gives a detailed analysis of the civil service data, including patterns, frequency and reasons for absence.
