The deterioration in services from Cheltenham to London Paddington and back over recent years has meant I now drive to Moreton -in- Marsh. The service from here is cheaper and more convenient for me to get to meetings I attend in London which start between 11am and noon and finish between 2pm and 4pm. Even with the driving time and costs my expense claim to these charities is considerably less.
On a number of occasions I was sent from Cheltenham via Bristol Parkway but the connections at Parkway were impossible and never met, resulting in my being late every time for my meeting.
It is also now impossible to consider a day trip to London for a recreational visit from Cheltenham due to the timings of the trains on which cheaper fares are valid. A visit to the Theatre in the evening has long been out of the question using rail only. To do any sort of leisure visit to the Capital recently we have driven to an outlying Underground Station and travelled from there. The London Transport Staff have always been most helpful and the Oyster Card scheme is to be commended.
I regret having to make so much use of a car on environmental grounds but have to weigh this against realistic costs, convenience and time.
