asked Her Majesty's Government:

What studies and research have been conducted by the Home Office into the best means of tackling the misuse of airguns; and

Whether they have made an assessment of the measures which are taken by other countries to tackle airgun misuse; and, if so, what were the findings of such assessment.

The misuse of air weapons in Great Britain is kept under constant review and subject to regular statistical analysis. There have been no specific studies in relation to practice in other countries, which can differ widely in their levels of controls. It is generally acknowledged that there is no single, simple solution to the problem of misuse and that a range of measures is needed to deal with different aspects of it.
