To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what plans his Department has in place for the introduction of the euro.

The Department of Trade and Industry prepared a Managed Transition Plan for any introduction of the euro in December 2004. This would be required if Government, Parliament and the people, in a referendum, all agreed that joining the euro would be the right thing to do.
