asked Her Majesty's Government:

What proportion of footwear sold in the United Kingdom is manufactured in Britain.

This figure is not available from official statistics but the latest figures from the British Footwear Association show that in 2005 UK-produced footwear took 1.5 per cent of the UK market by volume, 5 per cent by value. The difference in the two figures is because UK production is concentrated on higher value products.
