To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much has been spent in each year since 1997 by his Department on salaries paid to civil servants.

Since financial year 1999–2000, departments' annual resource accounts, which are available from the Library of the House, have disclosed the staff costs of civil servants. The Treasury's resource accounts for the years 2001–02 onwards are also available at:
