Education and Skills written question – answered at on 12 December 2005.
To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills what discussions she has had with other Government Departments concerning using the Building Schools For The Future funds for providing sports facilities.
Building Schools For The Future (BSF) aims to renew all secondary schools in England in 15 waves of investment starting from this year. This can include new and refurbished sports facilities. Our aims include making high quality sports facilities in schools available to the wider community.
BSF was developed in consultation with a large number of other Government Departments. Its aims on sport have been discussed with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and with other bodies including Sport England. My colleague, Lord Adonis, has regular meetings with the Minister of State for Sport which include discussion of sports provision in schools through the programme.
