To ask the Secretary of State for Health whether pensionable service of women doctors in the NHS scheme between 1972 and 1988 is taken into account when calculating the eventual widowers' pensions.
In line with the 1986 Social Security Act, the pensionable service of female scheme members between 1972 and 1988 is not taken into account in calculating a widower's pension unless an option was made to purchase pre 1988 service.
