To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what steps she is taking to ensure that private finance initiative projects for which her Department is responsible create the minimum of environmental damage.

The Department will ensure that any future PFI projects that it undertakes will follow DEFRA and Office of Government Commerce (OGC) guidance on sustainable development. The Department will also ensure that sustainability and environmental issues are considered when assessing the technical capacity of potential suppliers; and that environmental and sustainability requirements form part of its specifications in cases where the nature of the work is liable to have an impact on the environment.
