To ask the Minister of State, Department for Constitutional Affairs how much was spent on publicising (a) local and (b) general elections in each local authority area (i) in total and (ii) per head of population in each election since 1997.

The information is not collected by central Government. Since 2001, the Electoral Commission has been responsible for promoting public awareness of current electoral systems and systems of local and national Government.
