To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress has been made, in terms of (a) headcount reductions and (b) cost savings, in achieving the efficiency objectives set for the Department by the Gershon review.

Performance during 2004–05 was reported in my Department's Annual Report (Cm 6528); my Department's Autumn Performance Report will also describe performance against the value for money target.
