The Department for Transport operates competency based recruitment when recruiting new employees. For posts recruiting below SCS the department follow DfT's competency framework. For posts recruiting at SCS level the department follow the competency framework set by the Cabinet Office.

Specialist posts (i.e. accountants) do undergo some form of numeracy tests provided by an external agency.

We do not assess literacy skills of new recruits.
