The Department is fully committed to ensuring the full implementation of the new consultant contract in Northern Ireland at the earliest possible date, and continues to make progress towards this. Health and Personal Social Services employers have been instructed to agree job plans with consultants by 1 July 2005. Substantial additional funding has been provided to the Health and Personal Social Services to support implementation of the new contract and the Department is developing a range of measures to monitor implementation.
