To ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will make a statement on the incidence of MRSA in NHS hospitals.

The mandatory surveillance system for health care associated infection started in April 2001 with the collection of meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) blood stream infections data.

The latest data, for April to September 2004, shows a six per cent. drop on the corresponding period in 2003. More details can be found on the Department's website at Article/fs/en?CONTENT_ID=4085951&chk=HBt2QD.

Unbelievable question. What answer was she expecting? Why waste time and money asking the question when there is so much available on the record already
