To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills whether the £280 million pledged by the Government to improve school meals is new money in addition to funds already allocated to local education authorities.
Derek Twigg
Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department for Education and Skills) (Schools)
The money to improve school meals has come from the Department's reserve. It is therefore new money over and above existing allocations to local education authorities.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
