Feel free to listen to my answer then from the horses mouth!....
...I applied to the Met in January 2003, was tested in June 2003, and interviewed and accepted in July 2003....have been waiting to start ever since, turning down a number of potentially very good job offers in the meantime, as I was led to believe QUOTE "You'll be waiting for six to ten months before commencement" UNQUOTE!!
I received a letter (in July 2004) stating provisional start date in July 2005 (Yes! 2 and a half years after initial application), though no further news yet as at May 2005! I'm not hopeful either to start before September.
Hope this helps....

Further to the above it is now apparently April to July 2006 before training commencement. This is an estimate (it's changed 3 times during the waiting period) and Yes, that's 3.5 years since initial application!
Would you wait that long (or who knows how much longer than that) to start a job? Three and a half years!!
At the same time as applying to the Met I applied and then cancelled my application to City of London Police. This is ironic now because I was informed that City Police would take 12 months to send me to training as opposed to the 6 to 10 months estimated by the Met!! How wrong can you get?
Why am I waiting? I don't know...have not been kept appropriately informed.
Is it because of policy change? large recruitment numbers from 2-3 years ago being pushed through hendon which can accommodate only small intakes? Passed over for training the large numbers of PCSOs now on the streets? Because of my ethnicity (white, english)? I don't know, I have received a non-committal letter once a year on average, but blindly I wait.
Wish me luck.......

...for the record, I finally received a training start date of 15th October 2006. After much thought and consideration, bearing in mind the terrible communication I received from the Met along with the VERY long waiting time (almost 4 years start to end!) I decided on the day not to go to Hendon.
For those that do I commend you, however I don't regret the decision I just wished I could have made it sooner, but that was based on my experiences with the Met. I hope you too consider your options.
