asked Her Majesty's Government:

During the month of January 2005, how many cases there were of Northern Ireland civil servants being warned or fined for smoking at work.

During the month of January 2005 there were no cases where civil servants have been formally warned i.e. in writing, or fined for smoking at work. Responsibility for the issuing of informal or verbal warnings rests with the line manager and such information could be obtained only at disproportionate costs.
