To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions how many payments were made by the predecessors of his Department to victims of vaccine damage between 1975 and the introduction of the Vaccine Damage Payments Act 1979.

75 payments were made to victims of vaccine damage under the extra statutory scheme that preceded the 1979 Vaccine Damage Payment Act. These 75 payments were made following announcement of the extra statutory scheme on 9 May 1978. No payments were made prior to this date.
