To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills what arrangements for monitoring accidents at work involving members of staff of her Department are in place; and if she will make a statement.

All accidents in the Department for Education and Skills are investigated by trained health and safety officials. Reports on the nature and cause of all accidents are completed and investigations undertaken to identify the appropriate remedial action to reduce or eliminate any risks.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
