To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what recent assessment he has made of the numbers of police officers and community support officers in Wales.

This Government have delivered record police numbers to Wales. There were 7,448 police officers at the end of September 2004, an increase of 856, or around 13 per cent., since March 1997. Funding is now in place for nearly 300 community support officers.
