To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the progress of ratification of the proposed Constitutional Treaty for the European Union.

Each member state will ratify the Treaty according to their own constitutional procedures. Three member states, Lithuania, Hungary and Slovenia, have already ratified the proposed Constitutional Treaty. Spain approved the Treaty in its referendum on 20 February. A referendum will be held in the Netherlands on 1 June. In the UK, the EU Bill was introduced on 25 January and had its Second Reading on 9 February.
