Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs written question – answered at on 21 February 2005.
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment he has made of the proposals put forward by the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Dr. El-Baredei, to the World Economic Forum in Davos on 27 January for controls on nuclear weapons and military nuclear materials and technologies from terrorist groups.
The UK shares Dr. El Baradei's desire for a strengthened non-proliferation regime, and is currently examining his proposals in more detail. The UK has a good record of working with international partners to combat the spread of weapons and materials of mass destruction, through initiatives such as the Global Partnership.
