asked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether they intend to consult with sports bodies about the proposal to implement in 2006 the European Union age discrimination laws.
What impact the European regulations prohibiting age discrimination is likely to have upon sport; and whether there will be an exemption for sport.
Question number missing in Hansard, possibly truncated question.
Under the European Employment Directive (2000/78/EC) regulations will oputlaw age discrimination in employment and vocational training. The Government have already held three public consultations with all those who have an interest in age issues. Regulations will apply to all employers, including those in the sport sector. Our detailed proposals will be set out in draft regulations which will be consulted on in due course.
