To ask the Secretary of State for Health whether primary care trusts will be required to fund the post of prison healthcare officers; and if he will make a statement.

Within the framework set out in the NHS plan and the "Shifting the Balance of Power" initiative, decisions about funding for local health services, including those in prisons after the transfer of commissioning responsibility, are made by primary care trusts, in partnership with strategic health authorities and other local stakeholders.
